One check mark on a Telegram message means it was delivered to Telegram's cloud and your contact was notified, if they allow notifications. Two check marks mean they opened Telegram and read the message. A blue check next to the name of a channel, group or bot is something different: it is a verification mark, and only Telegram can assign it.

## One check: the message was delivered

This is how Telegram's own FAQ explains the first check: the message was delivered to the Telegram cloud and your friend was notified if they allow notifications.

There is no "delivered to device" status on Telegram. The reason is simple: one account can be open on as many devices as you like, so it would be unclear which of them such a check would mean.

If a message keeps one check for a long time, the person hasn't opened the chat with it yet. The reasons can be many, from "hasn't been on Telegram" to muted notifications. A single check does not prove by itself that you've been blocked. For the statuses "last seen recently" and "a long time ago", see [last seen on Telegram](https://shiba-bank.com/en/guides/last-seen).

## Two checks: the message was read

Two checks mean the person opened Telegram and opened the conversation with your message. That is how it works in a private chat, where you talk with one person.

Groups work a little differently, according to Telegram:

- a message is marked as read (two checks) as soon as at least one other member sees it;
- in smaller groups you can select your message and see which members have read it;
- Telegram keeps this data for only 7 days after the message was sent.

Posts in channels have their own counter: the number of views. How it is counted and who can see it is in [views on Telegram](https://shiba-bank.com/en/guides/views).

## Read time

In private chats Telegram shows not only the checks but also the exact time the message was opened. You can see this time for 7 days, then it is deleted.

Read time has its own privacy settings, tied to your last seen settings: your read time is hidden from the people you hide your last seen from. By default the rule is mutual: if you hide yours, you don't see theirs. With Telegram Premium you can hide your time and still see the times of people who share theirs with you. Premium doesn't open a time that is hidden from you. More in [last seen on Telegram](https://shiba-bank.com/en/guides/last-seen).

## The blue check next to a chat: verification

A blue check next to the name of a channel, group or bot is Telegram's verification mark. It means the chat is official and Telegram approved its application. The mark shows on the chat's info page, in the chat list and in search results.

What to know about this mark:

- **Only Telegram assigns it.** No other service can put this check on a chat.
- **It says nothing about the content.** According to Telegram, verification is not an endorsement of a chat's opinions or posts. It is a way to identify official sources.
- **It adds no abilities.** A verified chat uses Telegram the same way as one without the mark.
- **Personal accounts don't get it.** Telegram's verification page says user accounts are not verified at the moment: verification is for large, active official channels, groups and bots.

> **Important:** If someone offers to "put a blue check" on your profile or channel for money, that is not Telegram: only Telegram assigns the official check, and applications go through the @VerifyBot bot. Never share your login code or give anyone access to your account.

There is another kind of icon. Official third-party services can add their own verification icons to accounts and chats. They stand before the name, look different from Telegram's check, and the profile carries an explanation of who verified what. If a personal account shows a similar mark, open the profile and read that explanation. ## Frequently asked questions

### What does one check mean on Telegram?
The message was delivered to Telegram's cloud and your contact was notified if they allow notifications. The single check doesn't say whether it has been read.

The person opened Telegram and the chat with your message, so it has been read. In a group, two checks appear once at least one member has seen the message.

### Telegram shows one check on my message: am I blocked?
One check alone doesn't show that: it only means the chat with the message hasn't been opened yet. Compare other signs, for example the last seen status.

### What does the blue check on a channel or bot mean?
Telegram has confirmed that it is an official channel, group or bot. Only Telegram assigns this mark.

### How long is the read time of a message visible?
In private chats, for 7 days, then it is deleted.
