# GRAM, formerly TON: what it is and how to buy it Why Toncoin became GRAM, what stayed the same and where to buy GRAM. https://shiba-bank.com/en/guides/gram Updated 2026-10-02 · 5 min read GRAM is the coin of the TON blockchain, the network behind Fragment, NFT gifts and the crypto wallets in Telegram. Until 15 June 2026 it was called Toncoin and its ticker was TON. Only the coin's name changed: the network is still called The Open Network, or TON. ## Why TON became GRAM The coin was renamed after a community vote: 81.22% of those who voted backed the new name. The rename took effect on 15 June 2026 at 12:00 UTC: the ticker TON became GRAM, and the TON/USDT pair on exchanges became GRAM/USDT. Gram is what the coin was called in Telegram's first project paper, before the network lived under the name Toncoin. The coin got its original name back. ## What did not change - **How many coins you have.** Exactly as many as before: 1 TON = 1 GRAM. There was no swap, no migration and no "claiming" of new coins. - **Addresses and wallets.** Addresses, smart contracts and NFTs stayed the same. Tonkeeper, Walt and other wallets simply show the new name. - **The network.** The blockchain is the same: USDT on TON is the same network, and the network fee is paid in GRAM. > **Important:** If someone offers to "swap your old TON for new GRAM", asks you to "confirm your wallet for the migration" or wants your recovery phrase for the rename, it's a scam. The rename required nothing from coin holders. ## The GRAM rate The GRAM rate is the rate of the former TON: the same coins and the same price history under a new ticker. Crypto exchanges and wallets show it. If a search for the "TON rate" shows GRAM, it is the same coin. When you pay in GRAM in the Shiba Bank bot, the amount on the invoice is already worked out at the market rate at the moment of payment, so there is nothing to convert yourself. The number of coins, addresses and wallets did not change: 1 TON = 1 GRAM. ### Do I need to do anything with my TON? No. The rename happened without any swap or migration.
