Renting NFT gifts is a deal on third-party marketplaces of the TON network: the owner hands a gift over for a while for a fee, and the renter uses it and gives it back on time. Telegram itself has no rent button — in the app a gift can only be displayed, transferred, sold or moved to the blockchain.

## How renting works

1. **The gift is moved to the blockchain.** Only a unique gift moved to the TON network as an NFT through Fragment can be rented out: Gifts → the gift → "Transfer" → withdrawal to the blockchain. The withdrawal needs a cloud password.
2. **The owner lists the gift on a marketplace.** They connect their TON wallet to the marketplace and set a price per day and a term.
3. **The renter pays in GRAM** and gets the gift for the term.
4. **When the term ends**, the gift goes back to the owner — in whatever way the marketplace arranges it.

One such marketplace is Tonnel; every marketplace has its own rules, fees and return process, and Telegram isn't responsible for them.

## Why people rent gifts

- to show a rare gift on their profile or wear it as a status for a while;
- to set a chat theme from a gift, which only gift owners can use;
- to try a collection before buying.

## The risks of renting

> **Important:** A blockchain deal can't be reversed, and a rental marketplace is a third-party service. If the marketplace disappears, makes a mistake or turns out to be a scam, you won't get the gift or the money back through Telegram.

- **For the owner.** During the rental the gift is out of your hands. Rent it out only where the return is guaranteed by a smart contract or by the marketplace's reputation, and read its terms.
- **For the renter.** Pay only inside the marketplace. "I'll rent you the gift directly, send me GRAM" in private messages is a common scam.
- **For both.** Connect your wallet only to a marketplace whose address you checked. Fake marketplaces ask you to sign a transfer and drain the wallet.

## Buying instead of renting

If you need a gift for a long time, you can buy it on Telegram's marketplace for Stars or GRAM, and Telegram itself runs the deal there. How to do it is in [how to buy an NFT gift](https://shiba-bank.com/en/guides/buy-nft-gift), and the Shiba Bank bot has the Stars for it.

## FAQ

### Can I rent a gift within Telegram itself?
No. Rentals are arranged by third-party TON marketplaces; the Telegram app has no such feature.

### Which gifts can be rented out?
Only unique (NFT) gifts moved to the TON blockchain through Fragment. Regular gifts can't be transferred or rented out.

### What do you pay for a rental with?
Usually GRAM (formerly TON), from a wallet connected to the marketplace.

### Will Telegram return my gift if the renter doesn't give it back?
No. The deal happens outside Telegram and can't be reversed on the blockchain; everything depends on the marketplace's rules and honesty.
