A reaction on Telegram is an emoji under a message — a reply without text. To react, press and hold a message and pick an emoji above the menu; a double tap sends your quick reaction. Tap your reaction again to remove it. Without Premium you can put one reaction on a message, with Telegram Premium up to three.

## How to react to a message

1. **On a phone**, press and hold the message. A reaction bar opens above the menu; expand it for more emoji.
2. **On a computer**, right-click the message.
3. **Quick reaction** — double-tap the message. On a computer, choose "Send reaction with double click" in Chat Settings first.

In private chats reactions are always on. In groups and channels the admins turn them on and choose the emoji.

## How to change a reaction and your quick reaction

- **Replace.** Pick another reaction: without Premium it takes the old one's place, with Premium you can keep up to three.
- **Remove.** Tap your reaction under the message again.
- **Quick reaction.** iPhone: Settings → Appearance → Stickers and Emoji → Quick Reaction. Android: Settings → Chat Settings → Quick Reaction. Computer: Settings → Chat Settings, next to the double-click option.

> **Tip:** Can't find it? Search Settings for "Quick Reaction".

## How many reactions you can add, and what Premium gives

Without a subscription you get dozens of regular reactions, but only one per message. With Telegram Premium you can put up to three reactions on a message and use any emoji, animated ones included (in a channel, only the emoji its owner allowed). A premium reaction that a subscriber has already put on a message can be added by anyone — just tap it.

You can get Premium for 3, 6 or 12 months — for yourself or a friend by @username — in the Shiba Bank bot: [how to buy Premium](https://shiba-bank.com/en/guides/buy-telegram-premium).

## Who reacted

- **In a private chat** — the person you are talking to.
- **In a group** reactions are not anonymous. Press and hold a message with reactions, then tap the line with their number to see the list of people.
- **In a channel** there are no names, only counters. The owner sees in the channel's statistics which reactions the posts collect, but not who left them.

Notifications about reactions are set on a phone: Settings → Notifications and Sounds → Reactions — from everyone, from contacts only, or off.

## Reactions in a channel

A subscriber reacts under a post with the emoji the channel's owner picked. To turn reactions on:

1. Open the channel's profile → Edit → Reactions. On a computer: Channel Settings → Reactions.
2. Turn reactions on and choose the emoji: all, only selected ones, or none.
3. A channel gets custom emoji reactions of its own with boost levels — one per level: one at level 1, two at level 2, and so on. See [Telegram boosts](https://shiba-bank.com/en/guides/telegram-boosts).

The paid ⭐ reaction is separate: it is switched on in the same settings and sent with Stars. See [Star reactions](https://shiba-bank.com/en/guides/star-reactions).

## Reactions in a group: what an admin can do

In the group's profile → Edit → Reactions an admin picks all reactions, only selected ones, or none. Since May 2026 a group admin can also delete a member's reaction: tap the message, expand the list of reactions and hold the one to remove. When deleting, the admin can remove all of that person's reactions at once — two taps.

## iPhone reaction effects in video messages

"Reactions on circles" are not Telegram reactions but video effects of the iPhone itself. Apple calls them Reactions: a hand gesture sets off an animation over the video — hearts, balloons, confetti, fireworks, rain. They work in FaceTime and in third-party apps that use the camera, including Telegram's round video messages ("circles"), and stay in the recording. An app can switch them off, and then it shows no effects.

You need an iPhone 12 or later with iOS 17 or newer; only the front camera works. To turn them on:

1. Start recording a video message: hold the record button and swipe up to keep recording.
2. While it records, open Control Center (swipe down from the top-right corner), tap Video Effects and turn Reactions on.
3. Make a gesture away from your face and hold it for a second or two: a thumbs up shows a like, two thumbs up set off fireworks, a V sign releases balloons.

A regular reaction to someone's video message works like on any message.

## Why a chat has no reactions

- In a group the admin chose "No reactions" or left only some emoji.
- In a channel reactions are switched off in its settings.
- It is a secret chat: reactions don't exist there.
- The reaction is Premium-only.
