How to update Telegram on iPhone
Steps from Apple's support page:
- Open the App Store.
- Tap the My Account button or your photo at the top of the screen.
- Tap App Updates.
- Tap Update next to Telegram, or tap Update All.
Automatic updates are controlled in iPhone settings: per Apple, under Settings → Apps → App Store → App Updates. Menu names depend on your iOS version.
How to update Telegram on Android
If you installed Telegram from Google Play, the steps from Google's help page are:
- Open Google Play.
- Tap the profile icon at the top right.
- Tap Manage apps & device.
- Under Updates available, tap See details.
- Next to Telegram, tap Update.
To turn on automatic updates, go to Google Play settings → Network preferences → Auto-update apps. For one app, open its page and turn on Enable auto update.
You can also install Telegram outside the store: telegram.org/android offers an APK file. Telegram says that version receives updates directly from telegram.org and has fewer restrictions than the Google Play version.
How to update Telegram on a computer
Apps for Windows, macOS and Linux are on desktop.telegram.org. Windows also has a portable version, Linux has Flatpak and Snap, and macOS has the Mac App Store as well.
- Telegram Desktop on Windows. Open the app's settings and go to Advanced: there is an "Update automatically" switch and, when it is off, a "Check for updates" button. Labels may differ by language and version. On Linux and in the Mac version downloaded from the site, the update items may be named differently, so look through the app's settings.
- Mac App Store. Open the App Store, choose Updates in the sidebar and click Update next to Telegram, or Update All (Apple). Automatic updates are switched on in the App Store settings.
Why keep Telegram up to date
- New features come with app updates. Telegram describes them on its blog, telegram.org/blog. If an announcement mentions a section you do not have, check your app version first.
- An old version may not show some content. Telegram's developer documentation has a case for exactly this: the client reports that its version does not support that type of media, and you see a placeholder instead of the content.

Official apps are collected on telegram.org/apps: the App Store, Google Play, an APK file, desktop apps and web versions. Get updates from the same places.
