How to convert a gift into Stars on Telegram

A regular gift someone sent you on Telegram can be converted into Stars: the gift disappears and the Stars go to your balance. You can do this only within 7 days of receiving it.
How to convert
- Open the gift — in the chat where it arrived, or in the Gifts tab of your profile.
- In the Value row, tap "sell for … Stars" — that is the conversion. The button shows how many Stars you'll get.
- Confirm with Convert: the Stars appear on your balance right away.
Converting is final: the gift is gone for good.
The button says "sell", but there is no buyer: the gift disappears and Telegram itself adds the Stars to your balance.
How many Stars you get
Fewer than the gift cost: Telegram shows the exact number before you convert. Prices of gifts in Telegram's shop are on the gifts page.
Why there is no convert button
The "sell for … Stars" button is missing from the gift's card if:
- more than 7 days have passed since you received it — conversion closes, and the gift can only be kept on your profile;
- the gift is unique (upgraded) — those can't be converted into Stars;
- the gift can't be converted at all — for example, one bought at a Telegram gift auction.
If more than 7 days have passed
The gift can no longer be converted. A regular gift can't be sold or transferred to someone else either: only unique gifts can be sold and transferred. What you can still do:
