Model, backdrop and symbol of a Telegram NFT gift
What the model, backdrop and symbol of a Telegram NFT gift are, how they are rolled when a gift is upgraded, where to see each one's rarity in % and how to find a gift with the backdrop you want.
Every unique (collectible, NFT) gift on Telegram has four distinguishing traits: a model, a backdrop, a symbol and a number. The model, backdrop and symbol are rolled at random when a gift is upgraded, and each one has its own rarity, written as a % next to its name: the smaller the number, the rarer the trait. You can't pick a backdrop or a model in advance.
What the model, backdrop and symbol are
- Model — the main look of the gift, what is drawn on it. Each collection has its own set of models, dozens of variants.
- Backdrop — the colour the gift sits on. Every backdrop has its own name.
- Symbol — a small icon that is tiled into a pattern on the backdrop. The API documentation calls it a pattern; the app and the public gift pages call it Symbol.
- Number — the gift's serial number among the upgraded gifts of its collection, for example #2394. A gift's public page also shows how many gifts of the collection have been upgraded so far.
How to read the rarity of a trait
Each model, backdrop and symbol has its own rarity. It is the chance of getting that trait when a gift of the collection is upgraded: Telegram's API documentation describes it as the probability of the attribute. In the gift's card it is written as a %.
For example, the public page of one gift, Top Hat #2394, lists the model Alabaster 3%, the backdrop Pistachio 1.5% and the symbol Viper 0.5%. The smallest number belongs to the symbol, so it is the rarest of the three traits.
Rarity is rated for each trait separately: a gift can have a common model and a rare backdrop.
Where to see the traits and their rarity
- In the app. My Profile → Gifts, then open a unique gift. The card shows the model, backdrop, symbol and number, with the rarity next to the traits.
- By link. Every collectible gift has a public page of the form
t.me/nft/name-number. The traits and their rarity are visible there without the app. - On Fragment. The page of a gift that has been moved to the blockchain shows the same three traits with their rarity.
- On this site. Every collection with its models, backdrops and symbols and the rarity of each trait is in the NFT gift catalog.
What backdrops and symbols are for
They do more than decorate a gift.
- Status. If you wear a unique gift as your status, your profile changes to match the gift's backdrop and symbol. The button is in the gift's card and is called Wear.
- Chat theme. Telegram builds chat wallpapers from a gift's model and backdrop, and only the owner of the gift can unlock such a theme. This works for the gifts that support it.

How to find a gift with the backdrop or symbol you want
- On Telegram's marketplace. In the gift store, collectible gifts sold by other users can be filtered by model, backdrop and symbol. How to open the marketplace and buy a gift is in how to buy an NFT gift.
- On Fragment. A collection's page has Model, Backdrop and Symbol filters, with the number of gifts on sale next to each option.
Does rarity change the price
The seller sets the price of a gift, so two gifts with the same backdrop can be priced differently. The filters exist so you can compare similar gifts with each other. How to find a price, and what the "Value" field is, is in how much an NFT gift costs.
Crafting: another level of rarity
Telegram lets you combine up to four collectible gifts into a new one in an Uncommon, Rare, Epic or Legendary version. The more gifts you put in, the better the chance of success, and traits shared by the gifts you put in are more likely to carry over to the result.
Upgrading costs Stars
The backdrop, model and symbol appear when a limited gift is upgraded. The upgrade price is different for each gift: how to upgrade a gift to an NFT. You can buy the Stars for an upgrade in the Shiba Bank bot, for your own account or straight for a friend.
