Telegram Premium payment errors
What the "bot precheckout timeout" error and payment processing errors mean, why paying for Telegram Premium fails through the bot, the App Store or Google Play, and what to do.
Telegram Premium is paid for in one of three ways: through the App Store, through Google Play or through Telegram's official bot @PremiumBot. The error depends on the way — below are the most common ones and what to do about each.
"bot precheckout timeout"
This is Telegram saying the payment wasn't checked in time. Before charging, Telegram asks the bot that issued the invoice whether it can accept the payment and waits 10 seconds for an answer. If there's no answer, the payment is cancelled and this error appears.
What to do:
- Wait a few minutes and try again — it's often a temporary delay.
- Check whether money was charged. With this error the payment usually doesn't go through; if your bank put a temporary hold on the amount, the bank releases it.
- If the error keeps coming back, pay for Premium another way — see below.
"An error occurred while processing your payment"
This is a refusal on the side of the payment provider or the bank. In @PremiumBot a payment provider processes the payment, and cards from some countries' banks, including Russian ones, often don't go through. Other causes are bank limits on foreign payments, not enough money or a failed 3-D Secure check.
Retrying with the same card usually doesn't help — choose another way.
App Store and Google Play errors
- App Store. In Russia, new App Store purchases and subscription renewals work only if money is left on the Apple Account balance, which can no longer be topped up through Russian payment systems. If the balance is short, the purchase fails.
- Google Play. Google Play's billing system has been suspended for users in Russia since 2022, so Premium can't be bought through Google Play there.

How to get Premium when payment fails
- The Shiba Bank bot. Premium for 3, 6 or 12 months — for yourself or for a friend by @username. Pay with crypto or with Stars from the bot's wallet. Premium arrives through Fragment, usually within a minute or two.
- A gift. A friend whose payment goes through can give you Premium.
- Fragment. Premium is paid with crypto from a TON wallet — what Fragment is.
Before buying, set a @username in Telegram's settings: both Fragment and the bot send Premium by it.
