Telegram views: how they are counted and who sees them
How views on Telegram channel posts and stories are counted, what the eye icon means, whether admins see who viewed a post, and how to hide a story view or your read time.
Views on Telegram are the number next to the eye icon under a channel post. It shows how many times the post was opened, but not who opened it: neither subscribers nor the channel owner get a list of viewers. Names appear only on stories — the author sees who opened them, and you can hide your view with Telegram Premium's stealth mode.
What the eye icon counts
Every post in a channel has a view counter. Views of forwarded copies of the post are included in the total, so the number can be higher than the subscriber count.
The counter is approximate: Telegram does not keep a record of everything you have ever viewed. After about 4 days it forgets that you saw a post and counts you again if you open it again.
Can you tell who viewed a post
In a channel — no. Telegram gives a channel a view count and summary statistics charts, not a list of people. An administrator cannot open a list of who viewed a post. What channel statistics show is in Telegram channel statistics.
Story views: who sees them
Stories work differently. When you open a story, you appear in its list of viewers, and the author can open that list — while the story is live it sits in the circle above the chat list, afterwards it is in the story archive.
- By default the list of viewers becomes unavailable 24 hours after the story expires. That is why the views of an old story are sometimes "not available" — it is not a bug.
- With Telegram Premium the list stays available for good. The feature is called Permanent View History.
How to hide a story view
Telegram Premium has Stealth Mode. It erases your views of any stories you opened in the past 5 minutes and hides what you view for the next 25 minutes. Without Premium you cannot hide that you opened a story.
More about stories: Telegram stories.
Never give a site or a bot "for anonymous story viewing" your login code or access to your account. The login code exists only to sign in to your account, nothing else.
Read or not: checkmarks on messages
Messages in private chats have checkmarks, not views. One check means the message was delivered, two mean your friend opened the chat with it and read it. Telegram has no "delivered to device" status because your account can be open on as many devices as you like.
In private chats you can also see the exact time a message was read, but only for 7 days, after which it is deleted. That time follows the same privacy settings as "last seen": last seen on Telegram. With Telegram Premium you can hide your own read time and still see the read time of people who share theirs.
Bought views
Bought views are only a number: the figure under the post goes up, and the readers do not. The Shiba Bank bot does not sell views. If you want more readers, start with channel statistics and boosts: Telegram boosts.
Which story features come with Premium
Stealth Mode and Permanent View History are part of Telegram Premium. In the Shiba Bank bot you can get Premium for yourself or a friend by @username for 3, 6 or 12 months — pay in crypto or with Stars from the bot's wallet, no login needed. Prices are on the Premium page; everything the subscription includes is in what Telegram Premium gives you.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see who viewed my post in a Telegram channel?
No. Under a post there is only the number of views, and channel statistics show summary charts. Telegram has no list of the people who opened a post, for subscribers or for administrators.
How do I see views on Telegram?
The number is under the post, next to the eye icon. A channel administrator can open the post's statistics. For your own story, tap its circle above the chat list and open the list of viewers.
Why are story views not available on Telegram?
Without Telegram Premium the list of viewers disappears 24 hours after the story expires. With Premium it stays available.
How do I hide that I viewed something on Telegram?
A story view is hidden with Telegram Premium's Stealth Mode: it erases views from the past 5 minutes and hides new ones for the next 25. A channel post needs no hiding — the author only sees a number.
Why do I see more views than subscribers?
The counter includes views of forwarded copies, and after about 4 days Telegram may count you again. The number is approximate.
